Wicca, paganisme, magie

Choosing a Magical Path – Truth and Consequence
Josephine McCarthy (see also the reviews in this issue of Wiccan Rede Online) is currently writing a book of the process of choosing a magical path. The book will be put up on the net as a free download, with additions from other writers, magicians and teachers. The book goes into depth on various issues that are often not looked at or talked about in regards to magical training and being a magical student. Until it is ready to go online, she will post the occasional snippet on her blog. This extract is about truth, truth to oneself and looking for truth in the teacher.

A reminder:
The Advanced Bonewits’ Cult Danger Evaluation Frame
How to separate harmless groups from the potentially dangerous ones and distinguish harmful ones from those that are merely unusual to the observer.

Disabled Pagans
Patti Wigington a significant number of people in today’s Pagan community who identify as physically disabled? Pagans with disabilities find themselves facing a unique set of issues that able-bodied people don’t have to content with. While non-disabled people may automatically assume that ‘disabled’ means ‘in a wheelchair’, often disabilities are something that we cannot see.

Tips for Attending a Pagan Ritual
Another one from the many pages on Pagan Wiccan About.com, this one written for non-Wiccans who are invited to a Wiccan ritual.

Symbolen en tekens, betekenis en herkomst
Al vele jaren bestudeert Hein Pragt de betekenis en herkomst van symbolen, tekens, amulet en talisman. Hij deelt zijn kennis graag op internet.

Debate
In the United States a debate is going on in which the term ‘wiccanate’ is used. You may have heard about it. Here two articles that explain some things.

Don Frew on saving Pagan lives, ‘Wiccan privilege’ and interfaith
Don Frew has been active in interfaith for many years. “Witches have been actively involved in interfaith work – by which I mean working in meetings at least weekly – for over 28 years. The interfaith community is going to equate ‘Pagan’ with ‘Witch’ and ‘Wiccan’, no matter how much we try to explain that they are using both words incorrectly. As I said above, the ONLY way that is going to change is for more people of different Trads (or whatever) to get involved.”

Wiccanate Privilege Discussion at Pantheacon
During Pantheacon conference people spoke about that ‘wiccanate privilege’. Find out what the term means.

More debate – on predators because they are everywhere. Paganism is not free of threats or harrassment.

Of Pagans and Predators: Part 1
Predators go where they can easily gain access to their prey, and small subculture communities like the Pagan community are ripe for this for so many reasons, says Shauna Aura Knight..

Predators in Paganism (Trigger Warning)
There are issues surrounding dangerous and abusive behavior in our communities. T. Thorn Coyle addresses these questions for communities:
– What are our responsibilities to ourselves and to one another?
– What are our sexual ethics?
– What are our ethics around consent?

Sex, Sovereignty and Consent
“So let’s talk about sex and sovereignty. And let’s talk about consent culture. I’ve said before that sovereignty is rooted in the body. That while sovereignty in its traditional sense speaks more directly to the relations of the collective and its leadership, that relationship is a personal delegation of sovereignty by each individual. And that a person who is denied the very sovereignty of their own body cannot fully participate in collective sovereignty. Sovereignty is a set of interlocking relationships each dependent upon the integrity of its parts for the flow to occur.”

The missing stair
“Have you ever been in a house that had something just egregiously wrong with it? Something massively unsafe and uncomfortable and against code, but everyone in the house had been there a long time and was used to it? ‘Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you, there’s a missing step on the unlit staircase with no railings. But it’s okay because we all just remember to jump over it.’
Some people are like that missing stair.”
A perfect metaphor  from another community.

Concerned Pagans form the Council of the Phoenix to Address Abuse
In the wake of recent discussions about security and safety at Pagan events, a new organization has formed to directly handle such issues. The Council of the Phoenix is a group of professional counselors, abuse survivors, and concerned individuals who are “motivated to keep the sex-positive community of Pagans safe through educations and guidelines.”

Over Jana
